The Rooster is calling- Jacob Ruest helps the Shamrocks soar past Maple Ridge
Victoria, BC– The Victoria Shamrocks took their seventh win of the season at home Friday night against the Maple Ridge Burrards 16-11. Jacob Ruest led the team in points with nine on the night (2G, 7A). It was a complete team effort as Jesse and Marshal King put up 13 combined points, and Duch, Sundown, Foster, and McCulley had multiple-point nights.
The first period opened with Ruest scoring back-to-back goals, giving the Rocks an early 2-0 lead. The Shamrocks entered a bit of penalty trouble, but no harm was done as Jake Foster got on the board with a shorthanded goal in transition. Maple Ridge finally had the answer, but Brad McCulley got one right back for the Rocks. The Burrards then began on a short run, scoring two in a row. The Rocks were able to answer with goals from Marshal King and McCulley, putting them up 7-3 at the end of one.
The Burrards had the first goal of the second, but Jesse King was quick to respond with a goal in transition. The Shamrocks struggled to stay out of the box as the Burrards scored their third powerplay goal, bringing them within three. The Kings went on a three-goal run, with two from Marshal making it an 11-5 game. It was snipe city in the Q! Centre, as Rhys Duch added a beauty to the evening to finish out the second period.
The final frame started with a Shamrocks goal, but the Burrards were determined to make a come-back. Ridge went on a three-goal run as the Shamrocks could not stay out of the penalty box. Despite a late effort, and a long scoreless drought, Duch finally got the Shamrocks back on the board. With an incredible effort, Foster found Marshal King with a backhanded assist to give King his fourth goal of the game. The Shamrocks were in full force to finish the night with a win and came out on top 16-11.
