Bold Returns to Shamrocks

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Shamrocks are excited to officially announce the return of goaltender Aaron Bold to the club for 2015.

This will be the second time with the club for Bold, a 6’ 2” 29-year-old originally from Victoria and currently living in Edmonton, AB. After playing with the Shamrocks from 2007 – 2009, Bold pursued opportunities in Ontario and Alberta, landing in his current position as starting goaltender for the Edmonton Rush of the National Lacrosse League. In addition, Bold is among the Goaltenders recently announced Team Canada’s training roster for at the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.

“Since heading east, Aaron has paid his dues and established himself as one of the top goalies in our sport. His strengths as a netminder, are a result of his incredible commitment to fitness, his composure and his perseverance.” said General Manager Chris Welch. “He’s a Victoria guy who has roots here, has family here, and while he doesn’t live here anymore, he’s certainly a part of Victoria, and Victoria is part of him.”

Bold’s rights were acquired by the Shamrocks earlier this year in a trade with the Coquitlam Adanacs that saw the rights of Bold and left-hander Daryl Veltman come to Victoria in exchange for the rights to WLA sophomore Brandon Bull.

“Just like any home grown Victoria lacrosse kid, I grew up dreaming of playing for the Shamrocks one day,” Bold said in a statement. “I’m thrilled and honoured to get this opportunity to come back to Victoria and play in front of my home crowd of family, friends and Shamrocks fans. I’m looking forward to not only making an impact on the floor but off the floor too by further developing young goaltenders in the minor systems on Vancouver Island.”

During the regular season, Bold will be available to the Shamrocks on a part-time basis due to business considerations in Edmonton, but he will be fully committed once the playoffs begin. As a result, the ‘Rocks will use a three-goalie system in 2015.

“Obviously goaltending is a key position in our sport,” continued Welch, “and it has a big say in how far you go. We think the group we’ll have this year is capable of taking us the distance.”
