Western Lacrosse Association Releases Playoff Schedule

Burnaby, BC – The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) has released the schedule for the 2018 Playoffs, with the winner travelling to Ontario to compete in the 2018 Mann Cup Championship.

The first place New Westminster Salmonbellies (15-3-0) will face the fourth place Maple Ridge Burrards (9-8-1) in Semi-Final A of the playoffs. Both teams have recently competed in the Mann Cup, with New Westminster hosting in 2017, and Maple Ridge travelling to Six Nations, Ontario in 2016.

The Salmonbellies/Burrards series will begin on Thursday, August 2^nd, and will continue on August 4^th, 6^th, and 8^th, plus the 11^th, 13^th, and 15^th if necessary.

The other semi-final series will take place between the second place Victoria Shamrocks (12-6-0) and the third place Nanaimo Timbermen (10-7-1). The Shamrocks hosted and won the Mann Cup in 2015, while the Timbermen are making their first postseason appearance in eleven years.

The Shamrocks/Timbermen series will begin on Wednesday, August 1^st, and will continue on August 3^rd, 5^th, and 7^th, plus the 10^th, 12^th, and 14^th if necessary.

The winners of each best-of-seven semi-final series will advance to the Western Finals starting Friday, August 17^th for another best-of-seven series to determine the WLA Champion, who will advance to the Mann Cup Championship against the eventual Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Champion from Ontario starting on Friday, September 7^th.

The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) is an amateur league of men’s Senior A box lacrosse sanctioned by the Canadian Lacrosse Association. It consists of seven teams, based in cities throughout southwestern British Columbia. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Major Series Lacrosse champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year.
