Victoria to play Lakers for game 7 in Burnaby on Tuesday after 8-5 loss

In a repeat of last years opening round, the Victoria Shamrocks and Burnaby Lakers are going the distance, after the Lakers pulled out an 8-5 win at The Q Centre on Sunday evening.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Eli McLaughlin and Scott Jones in the first eight minutes. Victoria responded by rattling off three straight, starting with the return of Cole Pickup. Pickup, a Junior Shamrocks call-up played five games with Victoria in the regular season before heading off to school. He got Victoria on the board in his return, cutting the Laker lead in half. That sparked the Shamrocks, as Casey Jackson tied the game two minutes later before Mike Triolo gave the 'Rocks the lead another four minutes after that. The Shamrocks held onto that 3-2 lead after twenty minutes. Aaron Bold made eleven saves, while Victoria outshot the Lakers 18-13.

Burnaby found the equalizer just shy of the mid-way mark of the second period, as Cam Milligan scored shorthanded. Joe Resetarits put Victoria back in front three minutes later with his eighth of the playoffs. Milligan tallied again for the Lakers, this time on the power play, for his second of the game, tying the game at four. Burnaby outshot Victoria 15-8 in the stanza and scored on one of their two power play chances.

Burnaby took the lead early in the third, as Scott Jones scored his second of the game at 4:58 to make it 5-4 Lakers. Robert Church extended the lead sixty seconds later before Jones capped off the hat trick another sixty-three seconds later. The three goals came in 1:53 as Burnaby lead 7-4 in the third. The Shamrocks halted the run as Corey Small brought Victoria back to within two with his first of the night. The Lakers regained the three goal lead as Robert Church scored on a five on three power play. Burnaby came away as 8-5 winners, evening the series at three.
