Victoria comes out strong and finishes the night in Maple Ridge with a win to tie the WLA finals at one

The Shamrocks struck back to even their best-of-seven final series against the Maple Ridge Burrards with a hard-fought 11-9 win in Maple Ridge on Friday.  The teams were tied 2-2 after the first, Maple Ridge held an 8-7 lead after 40 minutes but the Shamrocks outscored the home team 4-1 in the final 20 minutes to get the win.

Adam Shute was between the pipes for the first two periods and was relieved by Cody Hagedorn for the final period while Frankie Scigliano went the distance for the Burrards.  The Shamrocks pressured and outshot the Burrards again by a margin of 49-36.

Jeff Shattler led Victoria’s offense with 4 goals and 3 assists while Rhys Duch had 6 helpers and they were named first and third stars of the game respectively.  The Rocks also got the hat trick from Captain Corey Small who chipped in 2 assists.  Cory Conway had 2 goals and 2 helpers with singles coming from Braylon Lumb and Jon Harnett.  Tyler Burton was again outstanding in the faceoff circle winning 14 of 16.

For the Burrards it was Dan Taylor leading the way with the hat trick and 3 helpers to take second star honours.  Ben McIntosh and Mike Mallory had 3 and 2 goals respectively.

The series returns to Victoria on Sunday for Game 3 at 6pm with another large crowd at the Q centre expected.  Fans can get tickets for games 3 and 5 at the teams extended office hours by calling 250-478-7625 or at victoriashamrocks.com.
