It's the best two words in sports; it’s what every kid is pretending to be playing in on their driveway, local box, or in their dreams. Game seven. Respect It!
For the second straight season, the Victoria Shamrocks and Burnaby Lakers find themselves in a win or go home scenario. The Shamrocks have won a game in Burnaby, and led another in the third period, so Burnaby is anything but in the clear with home floor advantage.
The Shamrocks run out one of the most prolific offences in the WLA, with back to back league scoring champion and team Captain Corey Small leading the way. Small leads the team in points with twenty-seven through the first six games. Joe Resetarits has found his stride and sits second on the 'Rocks in points and fourth in the league with an even twenty. Casey Jackson has seemingly been involved in scoring chances every time he touches the ball, the twenty-seven year old leads the Shamrocks in goals with nine, after crushing his previous career high in goals by twelve this season, finishing with twenty-seven.
On the back end, Aaron Bold has been one of the busiest goaltenders in the league, stopping two hundred-thirteen shots through six games, and has more than answered the bell. The Shamrocks net-minder has had some eye-opening games, such as stealing game one on the road by shutting out the Lakers in the first period and stopping forty-one of forty-nine on route to a 9-8 win and making thirty-eight saves on forty-four shots in a 9-6 win two days later.
Bold stands behind a defence that has become much tougher to play against since the returns of Ben McCullough and Greg Harnett. Victoria can also push the tempo with the likes of Dallas Wade, Sheldon Burns, and Steve Priolo to name a few.
The Shamrocks have more than enough weapons to go on the road and finish off the Lakers for a second straight year. Shamrocks Nation will surely be taking over Burnaby, showing the WLA who has the best fans in the league, ‘Respect The Shamrock’.
