Victoria Shamrocks 8 at New Westminster Salmonbellies 19 game recap
Written by Justis Doucet
New Westminster - Joe Resetarits scored eight seconds into Victoria's first power play, a five-minute major as New Westminster's Shayne Bennett dropped the gloves with Priolo. Resetarits added his second twenty-seven seconds later on the same power-play, putting Victoria up 2-0. The Salmonbellies answered with a pair of their own before Resetarits finished off the first-period hat trick with an even strength, recording the three goals in just seven minutes. Once again the Salmonbellies tied the game, but Victoria took the lead into the dressing room as Aaron Bold sent Steve Priolo in all alone, and the defender beat Alexis Buque just before the period buzzer sounded. Priolo's third of the season had Victoria up 4-3 after twenty minutes. Bold stopped nineteen of twenty-two first-period shots, while Triolo, Jackson, Small, and Resetarits had multi point periods.
Evan Messenger started the scoring, putting Victoria up 5-3 before the Salmonbellies scored three in a row to take the lead. Victoria answered with Messenger's second, and Priolo's second a minute later to retake the lead. New Westminster then scored the final five goals of the period to take the 11-7 lead after 40 minutes. Victoria held a 23-19 shot advantage and neither team had a penalty in the period.
New Westminster added another eight in the third on route to a 19-8 victory, tying the season series at 1-1-1. Victoria sits one back of Maple Ridge, and two behind New Westminster who finishes the season with twenty-three points. The Shamrocks finish off their regular season Friday against fourth place Burnaby. Just four points separate the four playoff bound teams, and while New Westminster has finished their regular season, there's a ton of jockeying for position to be done.
