Victoria, BC – It’s Sunday Night Lacrosse from Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge tonight as your Victoria Shamrocks take on the Maple Ridge Burrards in Game #2 of the 2018 WLA Finals. The Shamrocks hold a 1-0 lead entering tonight’s game and look to add another win to the books. Victoria is looking for something similar to their win in Game #1 on Friday night, in which they overwhelmed the Burrards, winning 9-4.
The Shamrocks were never behind in Friday’s game so their key tonight will be to score early and grab some momentum in their opponent’s building. Victoria has scored first in their last 3 games and has gone on to win in all of those games. If they find a way to get past a durable Frank Scigliano of Maple Ridge quickly, the Shamrocks could be heading home with a 2-0 series lead.
The goalie battle in this series was on full display in Game #1. Maple Ridge goalie Frank Scigliano made 30 saves while Adam Shute made 34 saves between the pipes for the Shamrocks 2 nights ago. While defense also played a role in the score of the game, there was no doubt about the talent showed between each netminder. It will be one of the future battles to look out for, not just tonight. So keep your eyes peeled as the series progresses.
The ‘Rocks will also expect to see scoring from several players tonight against Maple Ridge. The Shamrocks have 14 different guys who have registered a goal in the playoffs. In Game #1 of the Finals Victoria had 7 different players score a goal, including two-goal performances from Jesse King and Tyson Gibson. Along with King and Gibson, Steve Priolo, Casey Jackson, and Rhys Duch all had 3 point games in Game #1.
After Game #2 tonight, the Shamrocks will head back to the Island for an imperative Game #3 on Tuesday night at The Q Centre. Game time is 6:30 pm for every game in this series, including Tuesday’s game. Fans can purchase tickets here for Game #3 and are reminded that the doors open at 5:30 pm. We can’t wait to see you there Shamrocks Nation!
