Stronger Together- The Shamrocks honour Greater Victoria Police with a special game on July 22nd
Victoria, BC– In partnership with VicPD and Saanich Police, the Shamrocks are grateful to have the opportunity to honour Greater Victoria Police and raise money for “Stronger Together” for the injured officers in the Saanich armed robbery on June 28th.
With the tragic event that shook our city, the Shamrocks are grateful to have the opportunity to bring the community together and give thanks to the heroic acts of these brave officers.
“We are honoured to be invited by the Shamrocks organization to participate in this event,” said VicPD Chief Constable Del Manak. “The support of the Shamrocks organization and the support from our South Island community in the aftermath of the June 28th incident has been overwhelming. We are looking forward to a great night of lacrosse, and we’ll be keeping those injured officers who are still recovering, at home and in hospital, in our thoughts.”
Both VicPD Chief Del Manak and Saanich Police Chief Dean Duthie will be in attendance to be part of a special ceremonial faceoff, as well as share some words with our fans. Joining them will be the Colour Guard with members from both departments, as well as the Red Serge from Westshore RCMP. The first intermission will welcome the canine service and a meet and greet with the Police Service Dog, Maverick.
“The Saanich Police Department continues to move forward along the road of recovery and healing, which is heavily fuelled by community support,” said Saanich Police Chief Constable Dean Duthie. ”Our officers, civilian staff, and volunteers are deeply inspired by this support, and we are so grateful to the Victoria Shamrocks for taking a moment to recognize the heroism and bravery of our police, while we continue to keep those recovering in our thoughts. We’re looking forward to joining the Shamrocks on Friday, as we all take a moment to recognize those affected by the June 28th incident.”
The Shamrocks are also excited to host two auctions in an effort to raise funds for those injured officers' families. An online auction will run from Friday, July 22 and ending on Tuesday, July 26, with high-end items and exclusive experiences. There will also be an in-game silent auction for fans to bid on, that will run until the end of the second period.
“We wanted to do something for the injured officers and their families with our heartfelt appreciation and deepest gratitude for their bravery and dedication to keeping our communities safe,” said Shamrocks General Manager Chris Welch. “There has been a long-standing connection between the sport of lacrosse and policing and we can see it today in the number of Shamrocks alumni and other lacrosse people serving in police forces not just here but all across the country and the Shamrocks could not be more proud to stand with the police”
The Shamrocks invite the public to submit their short video messages of thanks to [email protected] which will be compiled and aired in-game, and shared with Greater Victoria Police and RCMP detachments.
The Shamrocks Stronger Together Game will take place on July 22nd at 6:45 pm as we take on the Coquitlam Adanacs. Make sure to get your tickets now as you won’t want to miss this special event. If you’re interested in helping donate to our auctions, please email [email protected].
