Shamrocks Win Season Opener
The Victoria Shamrocks opened the season defeating the Burnaby Lakers 13-11 at home in The Q Centre. Despite a rocky start, the Shamrocks maintained the advantage throughout the game with their relentless attacks on the Laker’s defence. The shot differential illustrated the demise of the Lakers. Victoria finished the game winning with 69 shots fired compared to Burnaby’s 37. While Lakers goaltender Eric Penney fought valiantly to deny 56 of 69 shots he was overwhelmed by the Shamrocks offense who came away with 2 valuable points.
This victory marked the return of Jesse King who made an immediate impact for the Shamrocks. King put up 5 goals, 2 of them coming in the third period. King finished with 10 shots on the evening and played effectively when paired with Casey Jackson and Rhys Duch.
Duch dished out assists the entire night against the Lakers. He collected a staggering 9 assists for the Shamrocks - setting up all 5 of Casey Jackson’s goals and establishing himself as the league leader for assists. Dutch’s presence on the court spelled disaster for the Lakers and opened up scoring opportunities for every critical goal.
