Shamrocks training camp 2016
The Shamrocks are back
Victoria, BC – Just over seven months ago, the Victoria Shamrocks raised the holy grail of Canadian lacrosse in front of a sold out crowd at the Q Centre. It all starts again this week, as the Shamrocks Training Camp presented by Muscle MLK gets underway. Over the next four weeks, the Shamrocks will be practising two to three times a week at the Q Centre in Colwood.
Beginning on April 25th, the team will practise on Mondays from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, and Wednesdays from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. There will also be two Sunday training camp sessions on May 1st and May 8th from 11:00am - 1:00pm. The last training camp practice will be on May 18th, ahead of the home opener on May 20th.
Head coach Bob Heyes and assistant coaches Dave Lowdon and Art Webster will lead the practises.
Bob Heyes believes that training camp will be an important first step in defending the team’s Mann Cup championship. “This year’s training camp, like every other camp, will be full of excitement, energy and players battling to make an impression on the coaching staff,†said Heyes. “We have a great core of players who are returning from last year's championship team. I am looking to those guys to continue building our legacy, and show the new additions to the team what it means to play for the Shamrocks.â€
“We know that every team in the WLA will be circling their calendars, looking forward to playing us, and we have to ready on a nightly basis for that challenge,†added Heyes. “Our goal this year is to get back to the Mann Cup championship, but it all starts with the first practice, and building our identity as the season progresses.â€
