Victoria Shamrocks 11 @ Langley Thunder 8 recap
Shamrocks Sweep Langley and clinch playoff spot
By Janice Huckin - It wasn’t as easy as the first two head-to-head games but the Victoria Shamrocks swept their season series against the Langley Thunder with an 11-8 win Wednesday in the Langley Events Centre and clinched a playoff spot. The Thunder gave them all they could handle through the first 40 minutes as the teams were tied 2-2 after the first and 7-7 after two, despite Victoria holding a 7-3 lead at the 13:20 mark of the middle frame.
Langley took a lead early in the final frame but Victoria rattled off 4 straight to capture the win. Cody Hagedorn got the win in goal for the Shamrocks, getting his first start in 3 games as he kicked out 35 of the 43 shots he faced.
Rhys Duch and Jesse King each had 2 goals and 2 assists while Cory Conway continued his league-leading assist pace with 4 helpers.Â
The win moves the Shamrocks over Burnaby and Maple Ridge into second place with 20 points, 4 behind the league-leading New Westminster Salmonbellies who have just 2 games remaining while the Shamrocks have 4.Â
