Thunder Go Out With A Bang

July 18, 2018

Wednesday was none too kind for the Victoria Shamrocks, who suffered a taxing 9-7 loss to the Langley Thunder. The ‘Rocks found themselves shooting the same number of shots as the Thunder yet they were down by two goals.

The second period went in the Shamrocks’ favour as they outscored Langley 3-1 and found themselves tied at 5 after 40 minutes. The Shamrocks weren’t as lucky in the third as Johnny Pearson scored the game-winning scored 12:18 minutes into the period and added an insurance goal two and a half minutes later. It was the ‘Rocks who were most aggressive in the final parts of the game but could not find the back of the net. They left the Langley Events Centre with zero points.

Rob Hellyer continued his hot streak as he scored 2 goals and added another 3 assists. He was named the second star of the game for the Shamrocks. Casey Jackson shared the same stat line that Hellyer did, scoring both of his goals in the second period. Adam Shute made a total of 40 saves on Langley’s 49 shots. Wednesday also marked the first appearance of defender Steve Priolo for the first time in a month. He had an assist on Jesse King’s first-period goal.

The Shamrocks finished the season series taking two of three games from the Thunder. After this game the Shamrocks are 4 points behind league leaders New Westminster. With the Maple Ridge Burrards victory over Coquitlam Tuesday night, the Burrards are just 1 point in front of the Shamrocks. That makes Friday’s game between the Shamrocks and Burrards extremely critical for both sides in terms of playoff positioning.

You can see Friday’s game at The Q Centre as it starts at 7:30 pm. There is a pregame tailgate starting at 5:00pm featuring a live performance from local band Deep Sea Gypsies. Doors open to the arena at 6:30 pm and if you haven’t got your tickets yet, you can purchase them here: https://bit.ly/2JAwBXS. Then on Saturday, the Shamrocks head to the mainland to take on the Coquitlam Adanacs - game starts at 7:00pm.
