Shamrocks Meet Maple Ridge Sunday Night

Victoria, BC – Sunday night marks an all-important Father’s Day affair between the Victoria Shamrocks and the league-leading Maple Ridge Burrards. The Burrards lead in the league in almost every major team category including wins, goals for, goals against, penalty minutes, and penalty kill %. It’s why the 2-4 Victoria Shamrocks coming into Sunday against a rugged opponent, having lost to the Burrards 9-5 a week ago in Maple Ridge and are hoping to win back to back games for the first time this season. 

The Burrards are slightly rested coming into this matchup, having last defeated the Langley Thunder 14-4 Wednesday night at the Langley Events Centre. In that game, Maple Ridge put up seven 3rd period goals with Matthew Dinsdale getting a hat trick in the final frame alone. One of the hottest players in the WLA right now, Riley Loewen, had eight points on Wednesday alone and has 19 points in his last three games. Loewen, along with the league’s second-leading scorer Mike Mallory and netminder Frank Scigliano, who has a 5.16 GAA coming into tonight, are each critical to the Burrards success. 

For the Shamrocks, things seem to be looking up. They’re coming off an impressive 15-10 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies at The Q Centre Friday night with Jesse King leading the way, putting up 4 goals and 5 assists in the win. The addition of King and defensive stalwart Steve Priolo to the Shamrocks lineup has given the team some much-needed momentum, as Victoria has won two of their last three games and outscored their opponents 32-28 in those games. Rookie Larson Sundown has been tremendous in his first three games, getting seven goals and an assist. Look for Sundown to be matched closely with former Shamrock Brett Craig in Craig’s first game back in Victoria.
