Shamrocks Host Adanacs in Crucial Game
The Victoria Shamrocks (9-5-0) host the Coquitlam Adanacs (3-12-0) in a crucial match up tonight at the Q Centre.
The Shamrocks enter the contest 2 points behind the league-leading Burnaby Lakers with a game looming on the horizon Sunday evening. The Shamrocks found themselves in a similar situation a week ago when they faced the Langley Thunder, a club well outside the playoff picture, and dropped a 12-9 decision before rallying to defeat the 1st place Burrards a couple of nights later. The take-away from that week was that nothing can be taken for granted in the hyper-competitive WLA standings this season.
Both the Thunder and Adanacs are relishing the role of spoiler down the stretch as evidenced by the Thunder’s win over the Shamrocks and Coquitlam's recent win over Nanaimo at Frank Crane Arena. The Shamrocks aren't in a position to look past the Adanacs to Sunday's tilt with Burnaby.
In the lone meeting between these two clubs back on June 21st the Shamrocks picked up a 14-6 win at the Q Centre. Larson Sundown had himself a night with 3 goals and 5 assists, while Marshal King wasn't far behind with 3+3. Cody Hagedorn was great in the contest as well as he faced 43 shots in the win.
Despite being the lowest-scoring team in the WLA, the Adanacs boast in an impressive weapon in Matt Delmonico who sits just outside of the top-10 in league scoring with 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points. Back in June, the Shamrocks were able to hold Delmonico to just a pair of assists despite him firing a team-leading 9 shots on goal.
The Shamrocks are returning to the Q Centre after a successful stint of 5 straight on the road. The Shamrocks have won 4 straight at home and will look to carry that momentum into the final week of the WLA season where they will hit the road with stops in New Westminster and Coquitlam.
