Shamrocks Extend Win Streak to 3 and clinch home advantage in first round of playoffs
By Janice Huckin - The Victoria Shamrocks extended their win streak to 3 games with a resounding 14-6 victory on the mainland against the Coquitlam Adanacs. Despite it being their third game in four nights, the Rocks led from start to finish, holding period leads of 5-2 and 8-4 on their way to the win.
Corey Small and Jesse King led Victoria’s offense, each with 7 point nights while Rhys Duch picked up a goal and 4 assists. Adam Shute went the distance in goal to pick up his fifth win, his second against his former team. Small, King and Duch swept the game’s 3 star selections, going first, second and third respectively.Â
The victory was one more step towards reaching the league lead, as they now trail New Westminster by just 2 points with a game in hand. The Salmonbellies wrap their regular season Sunday against the Maple Ridge Burrards. Other positions are still being juggled as Burnaby has now finished their season, picking up a 10-9 victory over the Nanaimo Timbermen to end the season with 21 points. In addition to Maple Ridge’s Sunday encounter with the Bellies, they will face Langley on Wednesday and currently in fourth place with 19 points.Â
Clearly, Victoria will have the final say in how they wrap the season, as they play the final two games in the regular season. First place is still within their grasp and they will have a week to recover after a hectic schedule this week.
