Shamrocks Close Out Home Schedule vs Lakers
The Victoria Shamrocks (10-5-0) host the Burnaby Lakers (10-6-0) tonight at the Q Centre at 6:00 pm. There will be a tailgate party beginning at 4:00 pm, and for the first time in recent memory, the Shamrocks will hand out their 2019 team awards right on the Q Centre floor after the game. Smack in the middle of all of that is a pretty darn crucial lacrosse game when it comes to the WLA standings. With a win, the Shamrocks would officially clinch a playoff birth.
The WLA standings are about as tight at the top as anyone can remember. Just 2 points separate five teams after both Nanaimo and Maple Ridge earned wins last night.
These two club's last met back on July 5th when the Shamrocks earned a 13-6 win over the Lakers at Bill Copeland Arena. The Shamrocks flew out of the gate and found themselves with a 3-0 lead just over 8 minutes into the game. Jesse and Marshal King combined for 15 points in the win.
The Lakers bested the Shamrocks 8-5 on May 31st at the Q Centre, so that set's the stage for the rubber match tonight being even more important as the winner will grab the tie-breaker.
The Lakers are led on the floor by the WLA's leading scorer Robert Church. Church has been electric all season long with 76 points in just 15 games. His 36 goals also lead the circuit. The Shamrocks air-tight defence has managed to hold Church to just 3 goals in the 2 game season series to date and will look for more of the same tonight.
