Shamrocks Announce First 2025 Player
The Victoria Shamrocks are excited to announce the free agent signing of Elijah Gash for the upcoming 2025 Western Lacrosse Association season. Currently playing in the National Lacrosse League for the Toronto Rock, the 6’4”, 220-pound defender has been having a breakout season, garnering attention for his strong, physical play.
The 25-year-old American has excelled in field lacrosse but is still rather new to the indoor game where he has shown rapid development in his second NLL season this year. He has a sports pedigree; his father Sam Gash was a fullback in the NFL for several seasons and won a Super Bowl in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens.
His lack of box experience is not a concern for the Shamrocks who are intrigued by his physical attributes and potential. “Elijah Gash is just what the doctor ordered for us,” said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch. “His size, toughness and terrific athleticism are welcome and much needed additions to our back end. He’s an impactful player with a ton of upside and we couldn’t be more excited to add him to our group.”
This first player signing of the 2025 season starts the 75th anniversary celebrations for the team, which played their first games in 1950 at the old Memorial Arena - "the Barn on Blanshard". The team will host an anniversary dinner on Friday, April 11th at the Royal Canadian Legion in Langford, followed soon by the start of the 2025 season in late May.
The schedule will be announced near the end of February. Season tickets for the 75th anniversary campaign are on sale now and can be purchased online or at the newly built Shamrocks/Grizzlies Team Store at The Q Centre, currently open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm. The store is located in the upper lobby of The Q Centre at West Shore Parks & Recreation.
