SHAMROCKS ADD MORE HOME GROWN WEAPONS

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Shamrocks excited to announce the return of two familiar faces to the green and white with the addition of Cory Conway and Nolan Heavenor to the 2015 roster.

Both Victoria natives, the two last played for Victoria during the 2013 run where they were major contributors to the Shamrocks earning the WLA Championship, and advance to the Mann Cup for the first time since 2006.  “Cory and Nolan were both on our 2013 team that came close, and they are hungry for another chance,” Welch went on to say. “Both of them had outstanding Mann Cup series in 2013; we’re building this team with September in mind, and they’re two big ingredients to us reaching our goal.”

Conway, a 6’ 2” right-handed attacker, was voted to the 1st All-Star Team in the WLA during the 2013 campaign for his goal scoring and setup abilities, leading to a 2nd place ranking in points with 20 goals and 67 assists in the regular season. He continued his production in the playoffs, adding 11 goals and 18 assists in 10 post-season games. Since becoming an everyday player in the WLA in 2010, he has not placed lower than 5th in the scoring leaders list, and has been voted to 3 All-Star teams.

“Cory is one of the top setup guys in lacrosse today,” said Coach Bob Heyes, “and he’s a great goal-scorer in his own right. He’s another dangerous weapon in our offense with a laser for a shot that will make life difficult for our opponents.”

“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to come back with the Shamrocks, there is nothing like playing in front of family and friends in my hometown” said Conway “What is even more exciting is I think this team has the potential to accomplish something truly special this year”

Heavenor, a 5’ 9” right-handed transition player, comes back to the Shamrocks as a veteran with championship experience, having been part of the 2005 Mann Cup Champion roster with the ‘Rocks. Heavenor has a talent for getting setting his team up for success, whether through winning face-offs, picking up loose balls, or when he needs to, putting one in the net for a quick point.

When asked what Heavenor brings to the roster, Coach Bob Heyes said “Nolan not only brings a very solid veteran presence to the team but he is one of the hardest working players I know” Coach Heyes added “He is an intense, fierce competitor who doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit and personifies what it means to be a Shamrock.”

Heavenor, who announced his retirement after the 2013 campaign, is more than enthusiastic about his return “It just shows how tight the Lacrosse community is and how hard it is to say goodbye to a love and passion like Lacrosse” said Hevenor, “I love Victoria and want to bring a Manner back home for the greatest fans in the game” he added.
