Season Opener Tonight for 2019 Shamrocks

Victoria, BC – As the new season begins tonight for both the Nanaimo Timbermen and the Victoria Shamrocks, the energy surrounding each team has to be positive. The Timbermen are coming off their first postseason appearance in 11 years and has mad numerous additions in an effort to win their first playoff series in team history. Prominent stars Jon Phillips and Colton Clark return for Nanaimo as well as former New Westminster Salmonbellie Sean Tyrell joining the squad. 

It’s hard not to like what Nanaimo has done in terms of offseason moves. Last year’s Dorothy Robertson Award winner for Coach of the Year Kaleb Toth has the Timbermen looking upward and onward entering this season. With last year’s leading scorer Chase Fraser and goaltender Charles Claxton coming off the best season of his career, Nanaimo will be a tough out for anyone, including the Shamrocks. 

For the Shamrocks, several familiar faces are back to run the place. Elite forwards Jesse King and Casey Jackson are back in the green and white for another season and with the Mann Cup coming out west in 2019, both guys are anxious to take #ShamrocksNation back to the promised land. A key addition to the squad is Keegan Bell. Look for him to make regular appearances on the score sheet, not just tonight, but as the 2019 season progresses. 

Coach Bob Heyes and GM Chris Welch believe they have moulded a championship contender and it’s hard not to like their chances. Coming off a disappointing finish to the Maple Ridge Burrards in the WLA Finals last year, the Shamrocks will be hungry and motivated to get back to the Mann Cup, something they haven’t done since they won it all in 2015. With explosive weapons, Rhys Duch, Chris Wardle, and Tyson Gibson all back for another season, the team in green and white appear to be on the attack.
