ROCKS ACQUIRE RIGHTS TO VELTMAN, BOLD

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Shamrocks are thrilled to announce that the Commissioner of the Western Lacrosse Association has approved a trade between the Shamrocks and the Coquitlam Adanacs, whereby the Shamrocks will acquire the rights to offensive player Daryl Veltman and goaltender Aaron Bold in exchange for the rights to offensive player Brandon Bull.

Bull, from Langley, BC, was drafted and signed by the Shamrocks in the 2014 Graduating Junior Draft. He put up solid numbers with the club in their 2nd consecutive Mann Cup appearance, playing all but 3 games over the course of the season and post-season.

“We’re sorry to see Brandon go,” said General Manager Chris Welch, “he was a good player for us in 2014, and he has a bright future in this league for many years to come.”

“There was significant interest from the mainland in Brandon, and while he did not ask to be moved, we think he will appreciate the opportunity closer to home, although he was happy here in Victoria, and we were happy to have him here.”

With this move, Victoria is signaling their intent to not only make a third consecutive Mann Cup appearance, but to bring the storied Cup back to the West, and back to Victoria fans.

Veltman, a 6’ 0”, 195 lb. lefty from Orangeville, Ontario, brings seven years of Senior A experience to the club. As a smart, effective ball player, he will be able to use his experience and leadership talents to make the offense around him better. “He brings a wealth of experience to a line up focused on winning a championship this season,” stated Welch.

Long-time Shamrocks fans will remember Veltman’s uncle, Jim Veltman, a Hall of Fame player who won a Mann Cup with the Shamrocks in 2003.

Bold, a 6’ 2”, 197 lb. goaltender originally from Victoria, will be remembered by Shamrocks fans from the 2007 – 2009 seasons. After his time with the ‘Rocks, Bold pursued opportunities in Ontario and Alberta, where he currently lives in Edmonton and tends goal for the Rush of the National Lacrosse League.

“Bold is undisputedly one of the top goalies in the game today,” commented Welch. “Whether or not he comes to Victoria for the 2015 season remains to be seen, but having his rights going forward gives us some options as we move towards training camp.”
