Victoria, BC – The Victoria Shamrocks have one more road game left to play in this 2018 WLA regular season and it goes on tonight at the Poirier Sports Complex in Coquitlam. Their opponents are the Coquitlam Adanacs who who have struggled this season as they enter tonight with just 4 points on the season. Coquitlam did, however, beat Victoria 13-10 in their first encounter this season. That was on June 30th and there isn’t much the same in the league since then.
Coquitlam will be playing their second game of the week tonight after playing the Maple Ridge Burrards on Tuesday. That did not go Coquitlam’s way as they lost to Maple Ridge 9-4. For all the people that want to talk about Victoria’s dynamic duo of Jesse King and Casey Jackson, no one should look past two Adanac stars in Dean Fairall and Matt Delmonico. Fairall and Delmonico each have 44 and 41 points on the season respectively and are responsible for 32% of Coquitlam’s goals on the season. The Adanacs are also remarkably disciplined, as they are one of two teams who have less penalty minutes on the season than Victoria. Coquitlam has 223 minutes while the ‘Rocks sit at 235
The Shamrocks are coming off a dominating 12-5 win last night against the Burrards. Casey Jackson led the way in points for his team as he had 7 in the evening. Some would argue that Friday was one of the most complete games for the Shamrocks this season and it would be tough to disagree. Victoria got goals from 4 different scorers in the first period and had an incredible 3rd period in which they didn’t give up a goal and limited the Burrards to 10 shots in that final period.
In the end, the Shamrocks swept the season series against the Burrards and enter tonight one point ahead of Maple Ridge for second place in the standings. After losing to Langley on Wednesday, a performance like the one we saw last night was exactly what the team needed. Now they get the chance to secure two more points as the build up for top spot in the WLA is on.
With a win tonight, the Shamrocks can sit just two points behind New Westminster with the two teams playing against each other one more time on July 29th in a game that everyone has marked on their calendars. However, the Shamrocks must get through their next two games against the Adanacs with the mindset of getting two points wherever they can by playing a complete three periods.
