Langley Thunder @ Victoria Shamrocks Game Preview

Friday July 7th @ 7:30pm, The Q Centre

Victoria – The Shamrocks were the better team for fifty-five minutes on Wednesday in Langley, but the difference between winning and losing is who's better for the whole sixty minutes. The Thunder's late comeback erased a Victoria lead, and now the Shamrocks use that as motivation heading into Friday's matchup at the Q Centre.

Victoria has a tendency to bounce back off losses with wins against Maple Ridge, and Nanaimo twice. They look to add Langley to that list and return to the win column in front of the home crowd.

2017 first round pick Evan Messenger will be making his home debut after he beat the second-period buzzer to score his first WLA goal on Wednesday, and boy was it beautiful. He collected a rebound at the near side of the goal, then ran behind the net, dove to the far post and slam dunked it into the back of the open net.

ALSO: Friday’s game is also FILL THE CUPBOARD NIGHT presented by Island Savings, fans that bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation will be entered to win prizes and will be helping our local foodbanks.

Langley Thunder scouting report

The 2-9 record is easy to scoff at, but seven of the losses have been by two goals or less. Only twice have they lost by more than that, and those instances were in their second and third games of the season. The Thunder are led by the offensive trio of JP Kealey, James Rahe, and Bryce Brochu. Kealey sits third in league scoring with forty points, nineteen of those goals, and accounts for just over twenty percent of Langley's tallies. Rahe scored twice in the final minutes Wednesday and is second on the team with thirty points, sixteen of them goals. Brochu is third with six goals and twenty assists. Davide Diruscio has seen all but fifty-three minutes in the Langley goal through eleven games, so expect to see him there again on Friday, his three hundred ninety-three saves are tops in the league.
