Jim ‘Downtown’ Cain to be inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame this Saturday
Victoria – The Victoria Shamrocks will be looking on with pride and gratitude when Jim Cain is inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a Builder this weekend. Jim "Downtown" Cain joined the Shamrocks training staff in 1979 and became head trainer in 1982, a position he held until 2015, a remarkable 37 seasons. Jim was part of Shamrocks teams that won 7 Mann Cup championships, more than any other individual has won as a Shamrock. A plaque hangs in his honour on the Shamrocks Wall of Fame at the Q Centre.
Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch commented on Jim Cain’s Hall of Fame induction, “I’m so pleased to see a trainer getting this prestigious recognition. Jim like so many other trainers in our sport was always the first one to arrive for games and practices and the last one to leave, his work was done away from the spotlight and the highlight reels, but was vitally important to our success. I can think of no one who is more deserving of this honour.”
Recently, the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame interviewed Jim ahead of the induction, which can be heard here.
The formal induction banquet and ceremonies will be held Saturday, November 11th at the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in New Westminster. More details can be found about the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the inductees at www.clhof.org.
