It’s Game Time: Victoria Shamrocks Announce Opening Roster
Victoria, BC– The Victoria Shamrocks are excited to announce their opening roster for the 2022 Western Lacrosse Association season, as they take on the New Westminster Salmonbellies at 8:00pm tonight, at The Q! Centre.
The Shamrocks named 23 runners, and two goalies to the roster, along with head coach Mike Simpson, assistant coaches Art Webster and John Hamilton. With nearly 80% of the opening night roster being Greater Victoria residents, fans are in for a local treat.
“We’re excited about the mix of veterans with the injection of youth,” said Shamrocks’ general manager Chris Welch. “The group has gelled nicely in practices and they’re chomping at the bit to finally get some games going. I get the feeling it’s going to be a fun year.”
The star-studded offense is comprised of local veterans like Rhys Duch, Jesse and Marshal King, and Chris Wardle, and also includes a few new faces like Cornwall, ON native Jacob Ruest, Calgary, AB native Jake Foster and Victoria native Brad McCulley.
The defensive end also has some familiar faces including Victoria residents Ben McCullough, Tyler Burton, and Matt Yager. Some newer, and younger faces will include Victoria native Liam Phillips, Toronto native Jackson Nishimura, and North Delta’s Justyn Gurney.
Making the stops at the back end are veteran goaltender Pete Dubenski from Nanaimo, as well as rookie Colin Jeffery from Shawnigan Lake. The full roster can be found below.
Catch the full lineup in action tonight as they take the floor for the first time in two years at 8pm at the Q! Centre. Tickets for tonight's game can be found online or at the box office prior to game time.
