Our 69th season has been an exciting one. We got to witness the fervor of the Victoria Shamrocks as they fought their way to the finals. This team, with it’s unique balance of veterans, new blood, and depth promises fans even greater lacrosse experience next year in our 70th season.
There is no doubt it was a disappointing end to the season for the Shamrocks, who lost to the Maple Ridge Burrards 9-8 on Saturday night in Game #5 of the WLA Finals. The win clinched the series for the Burrards, who are off to their first Mann Cup since 2016.
For the Shamrocks, there is a lot to like to about this team heading into next season. Victoria had several first-year players this year. The 2018 WLA finals exposed those players to an invaluable playoff experience. This year the Shamrocks had depth, but experience only forged a stronger team who will be more prepared for a Mann Cup run next year. Guys like Tyson Gibson, Mack Mitchell, and Brad McCulley will all be expected to make a significant contribution to the ‘Rocks next year.
For some of the Shamrocks veteran players, anything short of making the Mann Cup will be a letdown. Steve Priolo will be back for another season and he will look to build on his 10 points in the postseason. Jesse King should be back for another year after finishing second on the team in regular scoring with 93 points.
We would like to thank the best fans in the WLA for your continued support of the Shamrocks and we look forward to seeing you all in 2019 when the Shamrocks pursue their 10th Mann Cup in franchise history! Go ‘Rocks Go!
