Coquitlam Adanacs @ Victoria Shamrocks Preview

Friday July 8 @ 7:45, The Q Centre in Colwood

Schools out for Summer presented by McDonald’s

The last time that Shamrocks Nation got to see their team at home was a 12-9 loss to the New Westminster Salmonbellies. The WLA schedule has been light since then, as the Shamrocks have played just one game since. Two nights ago, the Shamrocks hit the road for a tilt at the LEC against the Langley Thunder. The Shamrocks dominated, and came away with a convincing 15-6 win. This game marked Adam Shute’s first game starting with Shamrocks, and he did not disappoint with 41 saves on 47 shots. The Shamrocks offence unleashed its firepower, and it was the usual suspects who put up the impressive numbers. Jesse King finished with four goals and five assists, while Rhys Duch put up eight points in his first game since returning from his honeymoon.

Wednesday’s win pushed the Shamrocks up to 14 points, which moved them past the Maple Ridge Burrards and into tight competition with the Salmonbellies for top spot in the WLA (The Salmonbellies host Coquitlam Thursday). The Shamrocks also continue to dominate the stats sheet with remarkable point totals.  Duch, Cory Conway, and Corey Small occupy the top three spots in points in the WLA, with 53, 46, and 40 respectively. As can be expected every year, Conway is leading the league in assists with 40. The Shamrocks also recently made a trade, acquiring Doug Langlois from the Nanaimo Timbermen in exchange for a fifth round pick. Langlois played in his first game as a Shamrock on Wednesday, and he contributed to the offence with an assist on a Chris Wardle goal.

On Friday night, the Shamrocks will take on the Coquitlam Adanacs for the first time in the 2016 WLA season. In three matchups between these two teams in 2015, the Shamrocks won two out of three, outscoring the Adanacs 36-25. As the Shamrocks begin to head down the stretch in the second half of the season, every game grows in importance.

CLOVER POINTS:  Tonight also features the School’s Out for Summer promotion presented by McDonald’s with free Happy Meals for the first 300 kids, O'Canada sung by Ben from Malahat and 1st intermission music by the Cookeilidh Celtic band.

Adanacs Scouting Report
