A Season to Remember - Langley takes down the Shamrocks in game 6
Victoria, BC– The Victoria Shamrocks came to an unfortunate end of their season after coming up short in a do-or-die game six matchup against the Langley Thunder. Despite an incredible effort from every single player on the floor, the Shamrock's season has come to an end.
The first period started off with Jacob Ruest getting a quick one past Frank Scigliano, but the Thunder went on a two-goal run to take a 2-1 lead. The remainder of the first period was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams as the game was tied five different times. Dallas Wade, Ruest, and Brad McCulley all added a tally of their own to tie this game up at 5-5 at the end of one.
The Thunder came out hot in the second period with an almost immediate goal from Connor Robinson, but Jesse King put away his first, tying things right back up again. A low-scoring period, both teams defensive units were pressuring hard, only allowing a total of five goals in the entire second period. The shot differential was definitely in favour of the Shamrocks, as they needed to take their lead back. The Thunder continued to roll, heading into the final frame with a score of 8-7.
It all came down to the final 20 minutes of play. The Thunder struck first, but Wade put his second past Scigliano on a beautiful transition play to keep things within one. The Shamrocks continued to keep things close with alternating goals between the Thunder, and then King getting his second and third of the night. With just five minutes left, the Thunder were firing on all cylinders and went on a lengthy three-goal run. With Chase Scanlan’s fifth goal sealing a Thunder win of 15-10 as they move on to the 2022 WLA Finals.
The Shamrocks gave their absolute all to take this series down to the wire. Facing adversity along the way, the Shamrocks thank everyone who came out night after night to support this team. The Shamrocks will forever be proud to have the best fans in the WLA, and cannot wait to be back in action next summer.
